Obituary

Wyatt "Curley" Thomas, 88, of Cahokia, Illinois, born May 7, 1928, in Lamar, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Bria of Cahokia, Illinois.

Mr. Thomas was retired from Dohrn Transfer Co. in St. Louis, MO. and from the Cahokia School District 187. He was a W.W. II U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Teamsters Local 600. He was also a retired Fire Marshall from Camp Jackson Vol. Fire Dept., and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernita Thomas, nee Cockrell; his parents, Ernest and Ellen, nee Harris, Thomas; six sisters, Viola Thomas, Ruth Powell, Imogene Holland, Helen Freeman, Mildred Curtis and Evelyn Thomas; a son-in-law, Tom Rhoda.

Surviving are his children, Judy Rhoda of Marion, IL., Ron (Brenda) Thomas of Cahokia, IL., and Steve (Diana) Thomas of Benton, AR.; five grandchildren, Scott (Debbie) Rhoda of O'Fallon, IL., Montana Vunetich of Dupo, IL., Jason (Stephanie) Thomas of Troy, IL., Alicia (Nick) Overbey of Deluth, GA., and Brett Thomas of Little Rock, AR; and four great grandchildren, Sam, Sarah, Bailey and Camryn. He was a dear uncle, cousin and friend.

Friends may visit from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Braun Colonial Funeral Home, Cahokia, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the funeral home with Jim Jarvis officiating. Burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
