Tonie M. Townsend, Sr. 75, of Cahokia, Illinois, born August 10, 1947 in Montgomery, Alabama, died Sunday, November 13, 2022 in Hillsboro, Missouri.
Tonie retired as the Chief Code Enforcement Officer for the Village of Cahokia in 2005. He held various positions in the Village of Cahokia, starting as a Community Service Aide,; a Health Officer; and later the Supervisor of the Health and Housing Dept. which later became the Code Enforcement Department. His children was very important to him and prior to working for the Village of Cahokia, he would change careers due to the fact that he was raising four children without their mother. In May of 2021 he was elected to the first Board of Aldermen for the City of Cahokia Heights and was immediately appointed as the Chairman of the Public Safety Committee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, nee Bleakley, Townsend; his parents, James and Annie "Pearl", nee Myrick, Townsend: two brothers, James and Woodrow "Woody" Townsend; and three grandchildren, Anthony Mordis, Katie Maloney, and Zachary Townsend.
Surviving are his children, Tonie (Tina) Townsend of Hillsboro, MO, Tonia (Kevin) Townsend Maloney of Fairview Heights, IL, Tracy (Jimmie) Mordis of Florida, Travis (Debi) Townsend of California; and Audrey Townsend of Missouri; two step children, Bryan Allison of St. Louis, MO and Jody Price of Waterloo, IL; numerous grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was also a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Friends may visit from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Braun Colonial Funeral Home, Cahokia, Illinois. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Roger Reid officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri of Monday, November 21, 2022.
