Susan "Sue" J. Thornton, nee Smith, 61, of Dupo, IL, formerly of Cahokia, IL, was born on July 7, 1959 in Paducah, KY, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020 in East Carondelet, IL.

Sue was formerly employed by Morningstar Chiropractic in Cahokia, IL. Sue loved spending time with family and playing slots.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Todd "Dale" Thornton Sr.; her father, Elbert L. Smith; and her grandparents.

Surviving are her two sons, Todd Dale (Brooke) Thornton II and David (Kasey) Thornton both of Waterloo, IL; her mother, Nina Smith of Dupo, IL; three brothers, Randy (Carol) Smith of Columbia, IL, Bob (Dianna) Smith of Barnhart, MO, and Bill (Diane) Smith of Oakville, MO; and four grandchildren, Tenley, Greenley, Cylas, and Decker. Sue was also a dear aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Braun Family Funeral Home, 265 Quarry Rd., Columbia, IL.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Reid officiating. Burial will be in Palmier Cemetery in Columbia, IL.
