Obituary

H. Sue Hawkins, nee Miller, 92, of Cahokia, Illinois, born April 22, 1928 in Carrier Mills, Illinois, died Saturday, February 6, 2021 at her residence.

Sue was a retired Personnel Secretary for the Cahokia School District 187. She was a member of the former Maplewood Park Baptist Church for over 60 years. Sue was an avid musician and enjoyed playing the organ and piano. She played for her church for many years and, in years past, led the Chapel Choir, which welcomed teens from all denominations. She has always loved her choir "kids". She started the Sue Hawkins Scholarship Fund that gave many students help with their college tuition. The scholarship fund is now being dispensed by the Baptist Children's Home. She was an avid reader and could finish a book in no time at all - sometimes in one afternoon. Most of all, Sue loved the Lord and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hawkins, Jr.; a son, Steve Hawkins; a son-in-law, John Gorham; her parents, Hugh and Gleda, nee Tolliver, Miller; and a sister, Iilda Hitchcock.

Surviving are her daughter, Cindy Gorham of Dupo, IL; four grandchildren, Stephen Hawkins, Amy (Rob) Russell, Kristen (Stephen Pate) Cagle, and Sean Gorham; three great grand children, Michael Hawkins, Zachary Stout, and Jace Russell; a special niece, Deb (Charlie) Butler; and a special great niece, Lisa (Pat) Connor. She was also a dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend.
