Robert E. Schwartz, 89, of Columbia, Illinois, formerly of Cahokia, Illinois, born March 15, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri, died Friday, January 20, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was a retired Director of the Village of Cahokia Pool and Rink. He was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Belleville/Swansea Moose Lodge 1221. He enjoyed dancing, traveling, fishing, working out in his yard, and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Helen nee Schallert, Schwartz; four brothers, Ronald, Richard, David, and James Schwartz; and a sister Arlene Magoc.

Surviving are his wife of almost 70 years, Carol, nee Stonum, Schwartz. his children, Cheri Cox of Imperial, MO, Chris (Danny) Peters of Columbia, IL, Cindy (Patrick) McMullan of Columbia, IL, and Rob (Suzanne) Schwartz of Godfey, IL; a brother, John Schwartz of Flagstaff, AZ; a sister, Nancy (Bob) Unger of St. Louis, MO; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was also a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.

In following Robert's wishes a private cremation will be held. A private family service will be held at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia, Illinois followed with a burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. A Celebration of Life Event will be held at a later date.
