Richard Michael Smith, 69, of Cahokia, Illinois, born February 22, 1952 in Berwyn, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Bria of Cahokia.

Richard was a retired Records Clerk for the Veterans Administration and served in the United States Air Force from October 6, 1972 to December 19, 1979 (during the Vietnam War). He graduated from Southwestern Illinois College in 1983.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Annette, nee Hockman, Smith.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Cheryl Sue, nee Crowder, Smith; a son, Richard Michael Smith II of Paducah, KY; three daughters, Nikole Easter of Council Bluffs, IA, Margaret (Moon) Kim of O'Fallon, MO, and Nancy Smith of Cahokia, IL; five brothers; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was also a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Braun Colonial Funeral Home, Cahokia, Illinois. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
