Norman H. Vehlewald, 85, of Belleville, Illinois, formerly of Cahokia, Illinois, born August 1, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri, died Saturday, August 17, 2024 at his residence.

Norman was retired from the Chrysler Corporation and was a member of the UAW Local 136 and 110 He enjoyed fishing and loved to play his guitar. If you knew Norm, you knew he was a jokester and a great storyteller. He loved to get a rise out of you. He had a way about him that was truly unique.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen Vehlewald, nee Strain; his second wife, Jean Vehlewald, nee Martin; a son, Mark Vehlewald; his parents, Arthur and Nettie,nee Lair, Vehlewald; three brothers, Howard, Marvin and Vernon; three sisters, Dorothy, Doris, and Suzie; a God granddaughter, Sophia; and a great grandson, Bryce.

Surviving are his children, Debra Vehlewald of Kansas City, MO, Dawn Marnin of Belleville, IL, Tammy Vehlewald of Owensboro, KY, Karen "Jean" Vehlewald of Granite City, IL, and Yvonne Bowman of Red Bud, IL; his step children, Wayne (Kim) Dalton of Cape Girardeau, MO, David (Tylanna) Chapman of Cape Girardeau, MO, Sheila (Eddie) Martin-Mecalo of Cahokia, IL, and Carla (Tony) Flinn of Waterloo, IL; 23 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.  He was also a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.  A special thanks to his grandson, Daniel Kirby, who helped take care of Norman during the last several years of his life.

Friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia, Illinois.  A burial will follow at St. Trinity Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
