Norman Miller, 80 of Fairview Heights, IL born December 20, 1942 in East St. Louis, IL died Thursday, April 6 at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Norm, also affectionately known as "Brother" or "Stormin' Norman" by those close to him, was a 1961 Assumption High School graduate. His first job was at Obear-Nester Glass Company in East St. Louis. He worked for Sears & Roebuck in Hazelwood, MO for 24 years before starting a political career as Precinct Committeeman (1991), Canteen Township Trustee (2000), and then Alderman (2001). At the time of his death, Norm was working as Canteen Township Supervisor with two years remaining on his term. He was elected to this position in 2013, re-elected in 2017, and again in 2021. Norm was a devout Catholic and attended mass at Blessed Sacrament and St. Henry's. Early in life, he played for five different men's softball teams and coached Norm's Giants, RJ Krause All-Stars, and Kenny's Crew. Norm volunteered for the RJ Krause All-Stars Sports Club working with underprivileged youth. He loved playing poker with family and friends, horse racing, dog racing, playing slot machines, as well as woodworking making toy boxes and a playhouse for his grandchildren, and making and selling many metal drum BBQ pits.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Cecilia (nee Alvey) Miller; his in-laws Viven and Sylvia (nee Hood) Joiner; brother-in-law Frank Braun; nephews Rick Kenner and Jamie Jenkins; a niece, Karen Miller; granddaughter Samantha (Miller) Monroe; and a special friend, Richard "RJ" Krause.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Vivien "Lynn" (nee Joiner) whom he married on May 18, 1962; his four children Sherry (Cameron) Lohmann, Kenny (Amanda) Miller, Barbie (Philip) Schaefer, and Bobby Miller; 9 grandchildren Josh Miller, Matthew (Katie) Lohmann, Nicholas Lohmann, Allison (Sam) Talley, Stacy Miller, Zachary Schaefer, Dianna Miller, Mesa Miller, and Wyatt Miller; 10 great-grandchildren Jay, Haily, Brantly, and Paisley Miller; Marshall and Mackenzie Lohmann; Sawyer Talley; and Brantley, Brayden, and Devon Miller; siblings, Marilyn (Roland) Humphrey, Emily Braun, Michael (Becky) Miller, and Larry Miller; sisters-in law Sara Riley and Luann (James) Scifres; brothers-in-law, Jesse (Nancy) and Bob (Sandy) Joiner; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, special friends, Russell Krause, Juliette Gosa, and fur baby Lady Bug.

Norman was a loving husband, father, papa, great-papa, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend and will be missed dearly.

Visitation from 4-8pm Monday, April 10, 2023, and from 9-10am Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Braun Colonial Funeral Home, Cahokia, IL.

A funeral procession will leave at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from the funeral home to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Belleville, IL for a 10:30 Mass of the Christion Burial, with Fr. Matthew Elie officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Fairview Heights, IL.
