Obituary

Morgan Travis Greene "POPS", 10/13/1939-01/03/2023, passed away after being diagnosed with cancer this past summer.

"Boobie Bear" passed away peacefully in the presence of his true love and wife of 62 years, 9 months and 16 days; Donna Rae (BUFF).  She often called him JACK or GEORGE or yes, BOOBIE BEAR but he has been the loyal, loving, devoted, care-giving love of her life.

In his last days he was visited frequently by loyal friends and family.  Each face to face visit or voice on the phone brought him instant joy and clarity.  Know that he understood the challenges of travel and health that prevented some from being present with him.  Your phone calls, face-time, messages and prayers, all reached him and made a significant impact on him and his family.

POPS was a proud veteran, husband and dad that set an example of how a man, a husband, a dad should treat their wife, raise a family and be there for their friends.  He wasn't blessed with a role model father but he learned from his MOM, Ara Garner (MORGAN), a single mother on how to raise a tight knit family.  His brothers were his BROTHERS and his sisters were his SISTERS, regardless of the parents or blood they shared or didn't share.  They are ALL FAMILY!

Ann Mitleff (Tony), Jim Garner (Sharon), Jane Foltz (Rick), Donna Meyer (Harold), Karen Kelly

Pops loved fishing and hunting, fish fry's and barbeques and stockcar racing.  Food was a passion of his and he was a great cook.  He often talked about dining in France while in the Army and how much he enjoyed the experience.  I believe what he loved about all of these things is that it brought people he cared about together.  He LOVED having a reason to be around friends and family and they loved being around him.  Even up until just a week ago when he spent Christmas Eve at Trav and Dona's house and Christmas morning at Rachel and Mikes house with friends, kids, grand kids and great grand kids.  He even played the harmonica a bit.

Dad stayed in touch with friends from his childhood in Poinsett County Arkansas, from the places he worked (Road Runner Trucking, Hartlage Trucking) and from participating in our Boy Scout Troops.  Many of those friends have become family.  He has loyal friends as neighbors from Cahokia, and E. Carondelet.  Pops has had friends a generation older then him (Bill and Fran Yelverton) that have passed away that he missed every day.  He has friends' generations younger then him that will miss him the same way, (too many to name, but you know who you are).  Dads relationships spread out like a web.  If you were a friend of a friend, a friend of a relative, a friend of Mom's or a friend of one of us boys, …you were a friend of his.  Many friends of his grandchildren, call POPS a friend.

Pops was always there for family and friends, even at the most inopportune moments.  It didn't matter.  One aspect of a true friend, that wasn't missed by dad, is he would also ask for help if needed.  And he expected the same in return.  Many times, he would stop by just to say hi, unannounced and unexpected.  His true friends did the same.  At any time, people would stop by for coffee, or simply to sit on the porch or in the yard and visit, with a cold beer.  Having people over for dinner was a regular thing at our house.

The core of dad's life however was his family.  His world revolved around us; Mom, Danny, David and Travis.  And ours lives were never absent of him, regardless of where we lived.  We grew up together.  We had dinner together.  We camped, fished, hunted and did float trips together.  We took Sunday drives together and worked on cars, houses and cabins together.  We built and raced cars together and as us boys grew, the family grew; and the enjoyment of being together with new family members also grew…AND HE LOVED IT!! Time together was always comfortable and an adventure.  And he was PROUD.

Dads heart was broken when Danny passed away three years ago.  Danny was his hero in many ways. They were inseparable.  Danny's parting gift to Mom and Dad is that they got to see him every time they saw Morgan or Rachel.  I think you all probably agree.

Dad saw Travis Murlen as the new core of our family and the BBQ'r.  I believe we all feel the same way but Travis wont.  He's as humble as dad.  Dad always treated him with reverence and rightly so.

Popso lived vicariously through me.  He LOVED visiting where I lived, meeting new people and eating at new places.  He always looked forward to a three-hour meal with plenty of bread and wine.  Me, I'll miss our drives together in his truck.  Just the two of us.

Pops has a special and unique relationship with each of his boys, grand kids and great grandkids.  I hope each and every one of them remember him and that relationship in the special way he did.  In has last months he often looked at the digital picture frame and made comments about each and every one of them and how much he loved them.

Our hope is that each of you have a memory of Pops, Travis, Grandpa, Boobie Bear, Jack, Dad, that you hold special.  One that makes you happy.  That's what he would want.

You've heard the saying…you can pick your friends but you can't pick your family?  Well, were blessed that our family chooses to be friends.

Dad once said he didn't believe a person had to go to church to be close to God, to be accepted into heaven.  He said everyone prays differently and everyone's church could be different.  I believe his prayers were him being an example to his family.  I believe his church was the fellowship of friends and family getting together.

Soo, if you're crying reading this, ill tell you what he ALWAYS told Mom and Trav when they'd get together…YA'LL STOP THAT SHIT!

Dad leaves behind Mom, Travis (Dona) and David (Trish), dad was preceded in death by Danny and also leaves behind; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren;
