Maxine D. Haggett, age 95, passed away Saturday, August 7th, at de Greeff Hospice House in South County, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Haggett; parents William C. and Bertha Pace Anders; and four brothers and sisters, Buddy Anders, Vernon Anders, Mary Crump and Helen Ray.

Survivors include her daughter Cathy Haggett (Gary Douchant), her son Larry Haggett (Linda), and granddaughters Courtney Knipp (Charles) and Lauren Suwanpratest (Brandon).

Growing up, she lived in a log cabin and picked cotton in Arkansas. As a young adult, she moved to St. Louis and worked at Elder's Manufacturing where a favorite project was sewing costumes for the chimps in the "Monkey Show" at the St. Louis Zoo.

She married her husband, Charles, on the 4th of July in 1950. The couple built a home in Cahokia where Maxine lived for over 60 years. Maxine had a "green thumb", and her yard was always overflowing with flowers, plants and shrubs.

As a senior citizen, she learned to drive, qualified for her GED, volunteered at the local hospital and hosted weekly meals for family and friends (dubbed the "the lunch club").

In her final years, she loved Dolly Parton movies, watching old episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, celebrating the holidays with her granddaughters, folding laundry for her daughter and singing "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" (with her son-in-law on the way to dialysis).

She also enjoyed crocheting (aided by an endless supply of yarn provided by her daughter-in-law), dominoes, checkers and Tuesday night dinners with her son at Cracker Barrel. Cornbread with milk was her favorite meal and her pockets were always full of Peanut M and M's.

Her trademark and most repeated phrase was "Thank You, Thank You, Thank You".

Visitation will be on Wednesday August 11, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Braun Family Funeral Home 265 Quarry Rd Columbia, IL. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Paul Malutinok officiating. Burial will be private.
