Matthew Christopher Neumann, 21, of Columbia, Illinois, born on July 26, 1995 in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away in his sleep on Friday, July 21, 2017, in Carbondale, Illinois.
Matthew was a full time student at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he was just shy of earning his degree in Mining Engineering. Matthew was a 2013 graduate of Columbia High School; JROTC member 2010-2013; lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia, IL.; an Eagle Scout from BSA Troop 320 in Columbia, IL.; a member of the Columbia Sister Cities; and a beloved son and wonderful young man.
Matthew is survived by his parents, Christopher and Donna Neumann of Columbia, IL., his brothers, Travis of Columbia, IL., and Tony of Denver, CO; his paternal grandparents, Clemens and Janet Neumann of St. Louis, MO; maternal grandparents, Charles and Amelia Dudley of Columbia, IL; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Memorials may be made to IL-941 JROTC or to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (Building Fund).
Friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2017 and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Braun Family Funeral Home, 265 Quarry Road, Columbia, Illinois. Funeral procession will leave at 9:45 a.m. to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, with Msg. Carl Scherrer officiating. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Columbia, Illinois.
