Mary L. Smugala, nee Gill, 86, of Columbia, Illinois, born July 29, 1935 in Nashville, Illinois, went home to Jesus on Monday, May 9, 2022 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was retired from General American Life Insurance Company. She was a member of, and an Eucharistic Minister at, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia, IL. She was also a member of the Columbia Senior Citizens; the 80's Ladies Club; and the Friday Morning Breakfast and Friday Evening Card Clubs. Mary was a devout Catholic and adored Jesus. She enjoyed staying active with her family and friends with activities such as going to church, dining out, playing slots at casinos, playing bingo, walking on the beach collecting seashells, doing puzzles, and especially family get-togethers. She thoroughly enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She touched everyone's heart and will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Smugala; her parents, Thomas and Helen, nee Kellerman, Gill father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vincent and Clara, nee Grzeskiewicz, Smugala; a brother, Raymond Gill; a sister, Alice Ward; brother-in-laws, Tom Ward, Eugene Smugala, Vincent Smugala and Charlies Jurkowski; and sister-in-laws, Marcella Gill, Loretta Gill and Linda Smugala.

Surviving are her children, Karen (John Vitale) Smugala of Chesterfield, MO, Thomas (Shari) Smugala and Julie (Peter) Ingold, both of Columbia, IL; two brothers, Robert (Teresa) Gill of Ashley, IL and William Gill of Pinckneyville, IL; a sister-in-laws Frances Smugala and Marcella Jurkowski; eleven grandchildren, Ashley, Aynsley, Samantha, Nicole, Dallas, Anna, Jordan, Adam, Katie, Andrew, and Amy; and eleven great grandchildren. She was also a dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Friends may visit from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia, Illinois. A funeral procession will leave at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022 from the funeral home to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Columbia, Illinois for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of the Christian Burial with Father Nick Fleming officiating. Serving as Pallbearers; Annie Setzkorn, Sharon Smugala, Darla Luke, Wayne Jurkowski, Kenny Gill, Dallas Smugala, Jordan Smugala, and Brian Ward. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery, Columbia, Illinois.
