Obituary

Kevin P. McGinnis, 64, of Mascoutah, IL, born March 22, 1954, in St. Louis, MO, died Saturday, September 29, 2018, at his residence.

Kevin was a Lieutenant with the Mascoutah Police Dept. where he has served for 23 years, after serving with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Dept. for 8 years, and the Cahokia Police Dept. for 13 years. In all he has dedicated over 40 years to serving the public as a police officer. He also served his country in the U.S. Army prior to his police years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Cahokia, IL. He graduated from Cahokia High School and the former Belleville Area College and then went on to obtain his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice and Human Resources from Western Illinois University. Kevin was a former instructor at the B.A.C. Police Academy for over 20 years, ending his instructor career with the graduating class of his son - Sgt. Christopher McGinnis - in 2002. He was the Vice President of International Police Association, Region 57; a member of the Faternal Order of Police for over 40 years; a former D.A.R.E. Officer for Mascoutah Police Dept.; and a former member of the Cahokia Volunteer Fire Dept.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Robert M. McGinnis and a brother, Timothy M. McGinnis.

Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Mary J. McGinnis, nee Whelan; his children, Christopher (Amber) McGinnis of Millstadt, IL and Meghan (Thaddeus) Biekert of Caseyville, IL; his mother, Anna Jo McGinnis, nee Flinn; his siblings, Marsha (Donald) Champion of Bradenton, FL, Colleen (Timothy) Murphy of South St. Louis County, MO; Dan McGinnis of Mascoutah, IL, and Robert McGinnis of Cahokia, IL; and three grandchildren, Madison, Emma Grace, and Peyton. He was also a dear brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.

Friends may visit from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2018 and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia, Illinois. Funeral procession to leave at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday from the funeral home, to Holy Family Catholic Church, Cahokia, Illinois, for an 11:00 a.m. Mass of the Christian Burial. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
