Jerry D Anderson Sr., 80, of Waterloo, IL formerly of Cahokia, IL, born February 26, 1941 in East St Louis, Illinois, died Saturday, November 14, 2021 at Mercy South Hospital in St Louis, MO.

Jerry grew up in East St Louis, IL and graduated from Cahokia High School in 1959 and immediately enlisted into the United States Navy. While in the Navy, Jerry was on the U.S.S. Skywatcher AGR3, and did picket duty off the coast of Cuba monitoring incoming and outgoing aircrafts. During this time, he was also involved in the Cuban missile crisis and was awarded the Bronze Star. After the Navy, he met his wife Marlene and they were married on January 12, 1962 and were married 56 years.

He was very active in high school, Jerry played baseball, football, cork ball and was a wrestler. Jerry participated in several organizations in his local area of Cahokia, IL. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1563 and very proudly achieved the title as the youngest Moose Lodge Governor in the state of Illinois. He was also a member of the American Legion and was the Quarter Master of the Cahokia Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #1699. As a career, Jerry started working as a bag boy for Tri-City, a grocery store in Cahokia, IL and over time moved to Red Fox Food Stores in East St. Louis, IL where he retired as Store Manager after 50+ years. Jerry loved playing horseshoes and bowling and has more awards and trophies than anyone could possibly name.

Jerry lived a great life of waking up, going to work, having fun and taking care of his family. He was the most happy outside on his patio, with a full cooler, hot grill, Cardinal game on the radio, freshly cut grass, and his Toots by his side. He loved seeing his family enjoy his pork steaks but loved it even more when they "BYOB!" Christmas was his favorite holiday and every year he'd dress up in his Santa hat and suspenders and played the Chipmunks Christmas music over and over. Towards the end, he devoted his life to making sure his "Toots" was happy and he did exactly that until she passed away on March 4, 2019.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marlene (Lutz) Anderson; his parents, Orville and Margaret (Snow) Anderson; a sister-in-law Linda (Robinson) Anderson; favorite daughter-in-law, Pamela (Torry) Anderson and a great granddaughter, Alyssa Hargrove.

Surviving are his children, Andrea "Andi" (Dan) Wheeler of Waterloo IL, Jerry Anderson Jr "Jerry Dale" of Columbia IL, Rhonda "Rhondo" (Todd) Forehand of Thebes, IL and Angela "Jason" Bush of Waterloo, IL; one sister Pamela (Steve) Hammond of Columbia IL, two brothers Scott Anderson of Vienna, WV and Gary (Sherry) Anderson of Litchfield, KY; 11 grandchildren David (Sherrie), Katie (Tyler), Adam, Karleen (Shaun), Samantha (David), Andrew, Luke, Teegan, Kevin, Brian, Chelsey; 17 great grandchildren Aden, Taylor, Rylee, Preston, Layla, Joelle, Kennedi, Kyleigh, Kaylor, Kollette, Dexter, Dawson, Miles, Wesley, Noah, Carter and Max; along with many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends may visit from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Braun Colonial Funeral Home, Cahokia, Illinois. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Osang Idagbo officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. Sweat shirt and Sweat pants are welcome, Casual and Comfortable or as you please. A Clelbration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. at West Park Bowl, 1101 Valmeyer Road, Columbia, IL.
