James "Jim" Thomas Traiteur, Sr., 85, of Cahokia, Illinois, born December 29, 1938, in East St. Louis, Illinois, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Oak Hill Rehabilitation Center, Waterloo, Illinois.

Jim was retired from Heimos Produce in St. Louis, MO and was a member of Teamsters Local 688. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran. a former Trustee for the Village of Cahokia. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Leo Jerome Assembly 1666, and a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 4596, all of Cahokia, IL. Jim enjoyed pitching horseshoes, Bar-B-Cueing, and shrimp boils with his family. He also enjoyed watching his grandsons compete in Corn Hole Tournaments and going to the casino with his companion Patricia "Pat".

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Traiteur, nee Klemann, whom he married on October 10, 1959, and his late life companion, Patricia Connelly, his parents, Jess and Lucille, nee DeBourge Traiteur, and three brothers, Jess, Carl (and wife Wanda), and Gale "Moe" (and wife Barbara) Traiteur.

Surviving are his sons, James Traiteur, Jr. of Cahokia, IL, and Bernard (Robin) Traiteur of Charlotte, NC, sisters-in-law, Theresa Traiteur and Susan Klemann, his grandchildren, James R. (Kelly) Traiteur of Waterloo, IL, Derek and Jessica, both of Charlotte, NC,  his great grandchildren, Ryan, Mason, and Silas, beloved close friends, Jodie (Steve) Merkel of St. Charles and Chris (Beth) Connelly of Denver, CO. He was also a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Friends may visit from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia, Illinois. There will be 4th Degree Knights of Columbus service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, to Holy Family Catholic Church, Cahokia, IL for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of the Christian Burial with Father Evaristus Akabueze officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later date.
