James "Jim" Oglesby, 86 of Columbia, IL, born January 19, 1940 in St. Louis, MO, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at High Point Residence in Waterloo, IL.
Jim enjoyed golfing, traveling, woodworking and most importantly spending time with Mary Lou the love of his life for 53 years, as well as their children and grandchildren. Jim moved his family to Columbia in 1977. He was heavily involved with the Columbia Blue Jay organization in the 80's as a coach, announcer and served as the club president. Jim had created many friendships in Columbia where he could always be seen at bowling and softball leagues, golf tournaments or at local establishments where he never met a stranger and always had a joke at the ready. He loved his community and always supported local businesses whenever possible. Jim was a veteran that served in the U.S. Army for 6 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Bud" and Ida Oglesby, nee Hewitt; sister, Myrtle Norris and brother-in-law Don Norris.
Surviving are his loving wife, Mary Lou Oglesby, nee Tanner; three sons, John (Sheryl) Oglesby of Waterloo, IL, Joe (Julie) Oglesby of Chesterfield, MO and Patrick (Alicia) Oglesby of Columbia, IL; Two stepdaughters, Jacqueline (Richard) Capps of Fenton, MO and Michelle (Mark) Tullis of Smithton, IL; sister, Dorothy (David) Humphrey of Moscow Mills, MO; 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was a dear brother, uncle, and friend to many.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Braun Family Funeral Home Columbia, IL. Memorial service will follow at 7:00 PM with Reverend Jonathan Bangera officiating.
