Obituary

Hobart "Hobie" L. Harris, 93, of Cahokia, Illinois, born June 22, 1928, in Evansville, Indiana, died Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Hobie was a devoted husband and loving father, a dear father-in-love, and a doting grandfather and great-grandfather. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family. He was a Godly man who exemplified his faith through the joy and kindness he showed others, and through the service he provided as a church volunteer and Boy Scout leader. Hobie's endearing personality and sweet smile made him a friend to all he met.

Hobie was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, having achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his USAF retirement, he worked as an Emergency Coordinator for both the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Department of Defense. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Army Aviation Systems Command, he was presented the Commander's Award for Civilian Service for contributions made. In retirement, Hobie enjoyed working part time at Kroger's in Cahokia, IL. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Cahokia, IL.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace E., nee Nichols; stepfather, George Randolph; a son, Steven Harris; a daughter-in-law, Loretta Harris.

Surviving are his loving wife of over 71 years, Betty J., nee Hawkins, Harris; two sons, Gary (Mary) Harris of St. Jacob, Il and Keith (Jeanne) Harris of Jackson, MO; five grandchildren, Bart, Kimberly, Ryan, Jackie, and Nathan; one great grandchild, Roman. He was also a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Cahokia, Illinois. Hobie will be buried with military honors near his son and daughter-in-law in Palmier Cemetery, Columbia, Illinois. Braun Colonial Funeral Home, Cahokia, Illinois was entrusted with the care of Mr. Harris.
