Helen Minerva Cawvey, nee Menendez, 91, of Freeburg, Illinois, formerly of Fairmont City, Illinois, born October 19, 1926, in East St. Louis, Illinois, died Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at Belleville Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Cawvey retired as a housekeeper in the nursing home field and as a in home caretaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Cawvey; her mother and step father, Maria, nee Gonzales, and Florentino Muniz; her father, Henry Menendez; a granddaughter, Mary Cathyrne Cawvey; a stepson, James "Sonny" Curtis Cawvey; and four brothers, James "Mopey", Henry "Pesty", and Eladio "Larry" Menendez and Raymond Dan Muniz.
Surviving are her children, Gloria Jean Rush, Larry (Joann) Cawvey, Sheila (Darryl) Griffing, and Mark (Donna) Cawvey; two sisters, Adele Muniz Branz and Dorothy Justina Branz; a brother, Albert Manuel (Jean) Muniz; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also a dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Braun Colonial Funeral Home, Cahokia, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Collinsville, Illinois.
