Hazel Lorraine Swenink, nee Dring, 100, of Cahokia, Illinois, born July 23, 1921 in Spring Green, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Memorial Convalescent Center in Belleville, Illinois.

Hazel was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Harry Swenink; a son, Fred (and his wife Patti) Swenink; her parents, Thomas and Mary, nee Bennett, Dring; three sisters, Helen Cottrill, Alice Dunn, and Norman Gumz; a brother, Orville Dring; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Kauk.

Surviving are two daughters, Dolores (William) Weidner of Dupo, IL and Catherine (Glen) Cobb of Evansville, IL; a son, Jeffrey (Yvonne) Swenink of Rockford, IL; two sisters-in-law, Loraine (Rod) Anding of Arena, WS and Kathleen Swenink of Reedsburg, WS; four grandchildren, John McEvoy, Christina Swenink, and Nick and Amanda Hartwig; six great grandchildren, Christian, Morgan, Audrey, Joshua, Nevada, and Amanda; and a great great granddaughter, Raven. She was also a dear aunt, cousin, and friend.

Friends may visit from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
