Freda Mae Holton (nee Showmaker) passed on Wednesday April 22, 2026 @ 21:58.  Her passing was peaceful, with family present,  and surrounded by love @ Accolade Healthcare of Waterloo, Il. at the age of 99.  She lived a long, fulfilling life and leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and joy that will continue to resonate through her family for generations.

Freda was born October 3rd, 1926, in E.St.Louis, Il.  She built a comfortable and happy life, marked by unwavering devotion to her family and her zest for life that never waned. She was the foundation upon which so many cherished memories were made. Her industrious nature was a force, guiding her four children, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren with kindness, wisdom, and abundance of love.

Freda had an enthusiasm for life, she loved being outdoors, spending time in her beautiful yard, caring for her home, and spending time with family. She enjoyed playing bingo and 7 card rummy because she was so, so Lucky, she won all the time!

Younger Freda was an avid outdoorsman, an enjoyable time of her life, Her marksmanship, duck calling, bringing in the big fish were unmatched. She loved being outdoors and found peace surrounded by the beauty of nature.

Freda lived a full life. Her resilience and independence were remarkable, and she always lived with a grateful attitude and a heart full of love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nindie (nee Kenney) Showmaker, her daughter, Sandy and her husband, Jerry Wright, two brothers, Buddy and Willie Showmaker, and sister Rosie Armstrong.

Freda is survived by her three children, Sharon Brungardt, Patty (Kevin) Eversman and Ed (Sheryl) Holton, two brothers James Showmaker and Cecil (Joann) Showmaker, her six grandchildren, her four great-grandchildren, and her great-great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by many extended family and friends, who were touched by her kindness, wisdom, and spark for life.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Braun Family Funeral Home Columbia, Illinois. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Valhalla Gardens of Memory Belleville, Illinois.

While Freda has left this world, her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, and her legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
