Obituary

Elna Cornett Rosenberger, 89, of Cahokia, IL, born January 5, 1932 in Hazard, KY, died Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at her daughter Janet's residence in Augusta, GA.

Mrs. Rosenberger was retired from the Eastside Health District and Centreville Township Hospital as a registered nurse. She attended Berea College in Berea, Ky, and was a graduate of Belleville Area College as an RN. She was a charter member and very active member of Bethel United Church of Christ in Cahokia, IL and served as the Chairman of the Mission Committee for many years as well as singing in the choir, teaching and visiting shut-ins. She was also very active in the community; volunteering at the Early Learning Facility, Kinder Cottage, Cahokia Library, the Belleville Shelter Shop, Hospice, The Food Pantry, Salvation Army, Compassion Fund Painters Group, Community Health Fair, Habitat for Humanity; Charter member of the Cahokia Kiwanis Club, tutoring various ages of children and adults, helped to bring Southeast Asian refugees to the U.S. She represented the UCC Church in mission to Equador, and sponsored an orphan in Jerusalem. Elna was a member of Cahokia T.O.P.S. and the Cahokia YMCA.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Graham Rosenberger; her parents, Miller Cornett and Nora Huff Cornett, and brother Robert Cornett.

Surviving are her son, Donald Rosenberger of Millstadt, IL, and daughters Janet (Saleem) Salaymeh, of Augusta, GA, Ellen (Billy) Dunham of St. Jacob, IL, and Martha Churchill of O'Fallon, IL; brother, John (Charlene) Cornett of Lexington, KY, and sisters Hope Richards of Louisville, KY, and Nancy Jo Cornett of Hyden, KY; 6 grandchildren, Jamil (Sumaya) Salaymeh and Majed Salaymeh, of Columbia, SC, Amber (Abdul-Muiz) Salaymeh, of Tampa, FL, Jonathan (Amber) Provance of San Diego, CA, Jessie (Felix) Churchill of Pontoon Beach, IL, and Sarah (James) Cole of O'Fallon, IL, and 15 great grandchildren.

Friends may visit from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021, at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
