Elizabeth "Jayne" Smith. nee Stephenson, 73, of Cahokia, Illinois, born September 11, 1952, in Lincoln, England, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Belleville Memorial Hospital.

Jayne taught school for several years in England before retiring. She had a love for music and taught it as well. After moving to the United States, she had several jobs, including being a librarian at Jerome School in Cahokia, IL

.She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Frances Stephenson and a brother, Graham Stephenson.

Surviving are her husband Robert "Tom" Smith, whom she married on September 11, 2004; her stepdaughters, Rhiannon Williams of Sparta, IL and Kim (Christopher) Kuni of Dupo, IL; a stepson, James LaChance of Cahokia, IL; a sister, Judy (Martin) Cordey-Hayes of England; a brother-in-law, Randy (Suzanne Scherrer) Smith; her God Children, Gemma and Jake Fisher; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; and her loving pet, Jack. She was a dear sister-in-law, cousin, and friend.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

In following Jayne's wishes, a private cremation was held. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia, Illinois. A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Ed Ingram officiating
