DORTHA LEE MARLER, nee Trammell, 92, of Cahokia, IL, born March 6, 1925 in East St. Louis, IL, has gone to join her Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 20, 2017, from her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Dortha was retired from the International Shoe Company. She was a long time member of Maplewood Park Baptist Church in Cahokia, IL. Dortha loved to cook and work in her yard. Her yard and garden was envied by many and she took great pride in the many compliments she received about how beautiful they both were year after year. Dortha was the loving matriarch of the family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth William Marler, Sr. whom she married on June 30, 1945; her parents, James Albert Trammell and Jennie Lee, nee Cummins, Trammell; a daughter, Cheryl Ann George; a son, Kenneth William Marler, Jr.; two sisters, Norma Jean Schwartz and Zola Mae Mason; a brother, Huvva J. Trammell; and her very close friend and companion, Petro Bruno.
Surviving are her two daughters, Jeanne M. Burton and Sandra (Jonathan) Bigham; her son-in-law, Joseph F. George; seven grandchildren, James (Pandora) George, Terri Bonjour, Billie Jo George, Michelle (Scott) Patillo, Ashley (Alex) Arosemena, Jamie (Dave) Sherman, and Stephanie (Derek) Ruberstell; 14 great grandchildren, Justin, Nicole, Adam, Crystal, Tyanna, Nyla, Zackary, Brittnee, Alexandria, Nicholas, Tyler, Mackenzie, Callan, and Colton; and five great great grandchildren. She was a dear aunt, great aunt, and friend.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Illinois-Orange Team South for their care of Dortha during her final days and ask that any memorials be given to them in her memory.
To help celebrate her life friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Braun Colonial Funeral Home, Cahokia, Illinois. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Dr. John Dawson officiating. Burial will be in New St. John's Cemetery, Mehlville, Missouri.
