Donald "Don the Barber" E. Sminchak, 89, of Waterloo, Illinois,. formerly of Cahokia, Illinois born on December 29, 1931 in West Frankfort, Illinois, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Don was the owner/operator of Don's Barber Shop in Cahokia, a Precinct Committeeman and the Centreville Township Assessor for many years. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo, IL. Don was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1334 in Waterloo and an avid golfer and member of the Mystic Oaks Golf League in Waterloo for several years.
Don was a hard worker, a realist and generous man. He was a great example to his family and will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mary, nee Lukek, Sminchak; and a sister, Barbara Stratton.
Surviving are his loving wife of 70 years, Dorris M. Sminchak, nee Purcell; his,children, Ricky (Sandra) Sminchak of Punta Gorda, FL, Cathy (John) Dammrich of Columbia, IL and Brian (Susan) Sminchak of Columbia, IL; a sister, Mona DeGroof of West Frankfort, IL; a brother, Gary (Donna) Sminchak of West Frankfort, IL; six grandchildren, Lauren (Zachary) Hesterberg, Michael (Victoria) Dammrich, Alexander Sminchak, Eric Sminchak, Sarah Misak, and Stephanie (Jacob) Weber; and six great grandchildren, Morgan, Paige, Andrew, Layne, Emma, and Emily. Don was also a dear uncle, brother-in-law, cousin and friend to many.

A private family Memorial Service will be held at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia, Illinois. Monsignor Carl Scherrer will officiate. In following in his wishes Don was to be cremated.
