Dixie Lee Ferrell, nee Higgins, 89, born August 1, 1936 in Belleville, Illinois, died Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Mercy South Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dixie was formerly employed by Bailey Tech in St. Louis, Missouri.  However, she was a homemaker most of her life.  She was member of Friedens Church of Christ in Marissa, IL. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking, but most of all spending time with her family.  She was a very active with the Cerro Seniors in Sauget, IL and was very instrumental with organizing different events.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace "Jim" Ferrell; two sons, Rick Almond and James Ferrell; a step daughter, Martha Gabriel; her parents, Herbert "Guy" and Cora Lee, nee VanDever, Higgins; a grandson, James Ferrell; a great granddaughter, Michelle Lee Ferrell.

Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Shiela Ferrell of Marissa, IL; a grandson, Shaun Edward Ferrell; and great grandchildren.  She was also a dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Friends may visit from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Braun Family Funeral Home in Columbia, Illinois.  Funeral services will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri on a later date.
