U.S. Veteran

BURL F. LAMKINS, 89, of Little Rock, Arkansas, formerly of Cahokia, Illinois, born May 31, 1919, in Newport, Arkansas, died Friday, June 13, 2008, at John McClellan Veteran's Center, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Mr. Lamkins was a retired Pipe Fitter for Local 562 of St. Louis, MO. He was a member of Baseline Missionary Baptist Church, Little Rock, AR and was a World War II US Marine Corps veteran and received two Purple Hearts.

He was preceded in death by three wives, Ellen, Bernice, and Pearl Lamkins; a son, Bobby Kofron; his parents, William and Grace, nee George, Lamkins; and two brothers, L.D. and Claude Lamkins; three sisters, Dora Ennis, Katherine Lamkins, and Opal Ennis.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Lamkins, nee Beard; his children, John "Jack" (Beverly) Lamkins of McCrory, AR, Frank Kofron of Belleville, IL, and Sue (Ernest) Osborne of Texas; a daughter-in-law, Ann Kofron of Cahokia, IL; his step children, Joyce (James) Moore of Hot Springs, AR, Judene (Roy) Juch of Houston, TX, Rebekah (Dale) Faulkner of Acworth, GA, Richard (Elsa) Duncan of No. Little Rock, AR, and Charley (Cherell) Duncan of Marion, AR; three brothers, Emory Williams of Beedeville, AR, Herman (Julie) Holder of McCrory, AR, and Clifford Lamkins of Rich Hills, MO; 27 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and a great, great, grandson. He was a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 16, 2008 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Braun Colonial Funeral Home, Cahokia, Illinois with Reverend Ed Latta officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis County, Missouri
